Known widely as the most influential makeup artist working in Australia today, Rae Morris can also boast the titles of best selling author, L’Oréal Paris Makeup Director and four times Australian Makeup Artist of the Year.
Born and raised in Brisbane, Rae originally directed her creative talents towards training as a hairdresser, owning and running her own salon by the age of 19. Enchanted by the world of beauty and looking for new inspiration, Rae turned to legendary makeup artist Richard Sharah who instantly recognised her true talent and advised her to move to Sydney. Three months later Rae had switched states and brushes and her diary began to fill up with high profile bookings like Cate Blanchett, Jessica Biel, Pink, Hugh Jackman, and top models Miranda Kerr and Catherine McNeil.
Collaborating with some of the world’s leading photographers including Daniela Federici, Justin Cooper, Philippe Cometti, Sarah Silver and Jason Capobianco, Rae has worked on editorial covers, fashion and beauty spreads in magazines including Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, Rolling Stone and In Style. Advertising clients who seek out Rae’s work include Max Factor, Bobbi Brown, Coca Cola, Adidas, Nokia and Ella Baché.
Make-up Director for L’Oréal Paris since 2003, Rae has worked with the country’s key fashion houses and directed makeup for many Australian Fashion Week shows. Rae’s professionalism, creativity and attention to detail enables her to quickly develop a strong rapport with the designers she joins forces with, a list that has included Toni Maticevski, Camilla and Marc, Alannah Hill and Zimmermann to name a few.
Skill and experience enables Rae to move between fresh flawless looks and more dramatic effects with ease. In 2008 she decided to draw on her teaching background to pass on knowledge and techniques in her first book Makeup: The Ultimate Guide. After worldwide success a second book, Beautiful Eyes: The Ultimate Eye Makeup Guide soon followed.
Rae's 3rd book, Express Makeup, was released in October 2010 and rapidly climbed to the top of the best sellers list making Rae the most popular Health & Beauty author in Australia. With Rae books now in over 8 languages and being used as the curriculum text for makeup academies around the world, Rae embarked on her 4th book, Timeless Makeup, with a focus on makeup for over 30's. Timeless Makeup will be launched in Australia in May 2011.
But Rae has saved her biggest project and most personal passion until now – the Rae Morris Brush Collection. Drawing on over 15 years of experience in high-end fashion makeup, Rae personally designed and tested each brush over a 2 year period. In making the Rae Morris Collection, Rae gave up all her secrets to make available brush designs and textures which have been the tools behind her most famous creations.
Rae still gets a kick out of seeing her work published and thrives on the chaos of directing a show. When she’s not on assignment, Rae splits her time between Sydney and New York.
